The Final Voyage

lyrics

We gather on our dragon ships ready to depart
A hundred men or maybe more to begin a conquest
We sail across the stormy seas for what seems like an eternity
Hoping to find new land which we can rule

Our ship cuts through the treacherous water
On we go to discover
New land to settle and to take as our own
We pray that Ægir grants us passage

To our right one of the ships begins to fall to the sea
We hear the screams of those on board crying out for help
Nothing can be done for them their fate is sealed
The seas have become vicious and a storm has begun

Four ships now remain from what was twenty
The sea has claimed her victory over our clan
The sky cannot be seen at all nothing but the dark
My one ship is all that’s left I know my time has come

Many men fall overboard and others try to swim
They are fools for they don’t see nothing can be done
The gods have turned their backs on us they’ve left us to die
I am all that’s left on board our last dragon ship

Far away I hear a sound a great and thunderous crash
The sounds of swords and hammers clash and many battle cries
But all around I cannot see land anywhere in sight
The sea begins to swallow me as I die alone

With the little strength I have I think of my kin
And how they will never know what has happened here
My son who is only five years old will never be
around for me to hold in my arms ever again

With my final thought I curse the gods up above
Why would the let us die when we praised all them
The icy water fills my lungs and I begin to sink
My life has been cut too short never to be found
